A theoretical correction alone does not tell you which model exists in a manufacturer’s catalogue. Contact lens selection connects both levels: the optical needs entered at the counter and the powers, additions, base curves and designs manufacturers actually offer.

What the optician enters

The starting point can be a spectacle prescription or one already expressed in contact lens powers. Both eyes sit side by side, while the search can still run for a single eye when that is all that is needed.

  • The sphere for the right and left eye.
  • The cylinder and axis when astigmatism correction is required.
  • The addition to route the search towards a multifocal option.
  • The preferred eye for distance vision when the manufacturer’s protocol uses dominance.
  • The vertex distance for a spectacle prescription.

K1/K2 keratometry can also be noted in the displayed record. In this version it is deliberately informational and does not affect how lenses are ranked.

From correction to manufacturable candidates

  1. Normalize the entry

    The cylinder is brought into one shared convention so differently entered values can be compared without losing their optical equivalence.

  2. Calculate at the corneal plane when needed

    For a spectacle prescription, vertex distance is used to display the theoretical correction at the corneal plane. A contact lens prescription is not compensated a second time.

  3. Query manufacturer parameters

    The engine checks the powers and variants available for each active model instead of suggesting a combination that is absent from the catalogue.

  4. Rank and explain

    The closest proposals appear first with their status, total gap and any parameters that still need verification.

Narrowing the catalogue search

Once the prescription is entered, filters account for the wear context and the store’s usual workflow. Results can be limited to a daily, biweekly or monthly replacement schedule, to hydrogel or silicone hydrogel, or to a specific design.

Covered designs include spherical, digital spherical, toric, multifocal and toric multifocal lenses. When a model is already known, a direct search by name or EDI code avoids browsing the full list.

Reading and choosing a proposal

Each candidate shows the model, selected power, available base curves and a readable status. An exact match is kept distinct from a manufacturer adjustment, an out-of-range proposal or a model that needs dominance to be entered. A color bar makes the gap visible, while the numerical detail remains available for interpretation.

The optician can keep one lens for each eye in the trial bar. This summary keeps OD and OS visible together and flags the parameters that still need checking before moving forward with the fitting workflow.

A selection aid, not a prescription

Clic-Optic suggests trial lenses from the entered data and the available manufacturer parameters. The final choice always requires checking the fit on the eye, vision, over-refraction and compliance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. The engine clarifies the shortlist; it does not replace the examination or professional judgement.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to use the module?

No. Contact lens selection is publicly available from the Clic-Optic application.

Are entered prescriptions stored?

No. The search calculates and ranks proposals without storing the prescription or the results on the server.

Why do some proposals require verification?

Some manufacturer protocols depend on additional information such as dominance, or lead to a less exact available tier. The module separates those proposals from direct matches instead of hiding the uncertainty.
